i waved my obsequious hands at the sun then dropped to scabbed knees to rub an aging face in the dirt and watch the blood of our union drop from my eye unto the barren earth, falling slowly....
with great compassion and concentration....
until it shattered ! into a billion red shards and many brilliant colored furry vermin appeared to make great haste to carry away each memory into their little fetid burrows wherein, as a great library, were stored remnants of broken evenings, useless endeavors and pale platitudes written upon skin parchment and bound into a pungent binding made up of all those things you said i would see.
and i was glad.

i boiled bones from those that went before us.
i salted tears of useless ventures.
i prepared a soup of desiccated, skeletal leaves.
they were exquisite and floated like small universes in which you could be content with me once again.
such is the frailty of dreams.
