historically, arsonists in detroit radically decrease the number of houses every year at halloween. in california, arsonists take on the great sprawling expanses of mountains. for years now, it's a happening that becomes akin with the changing of the summer into fall. the sky darkens, the radio shrieks with excitable women jamming microphones into firemens jaws and the air starts to bite deep inside and you will be in a common placement such as wandering outside to get in your car and carry on about your day but you will be forced to look up and pause- slow down and quietly marvel at the ashes that are falling from the orange goblin sky like gentle snow on the breezes of a million small animals and trees aflame in a decimating fervor.

"so we see that sorrow may be good or bad according to the results it produces in us. and indeed there are more bad than good results arising from it, for the only good ones are mercy and repentence; whereas there are six evil results, namely anguish, sloth, indignation, jealousy, envy and impatience. the wise man says that "sorrow hath killed many and there is no profit therein," and that because for the two good streams which flow from the spring of sadness, there are these six which are downright evil." St. Francis De Sales
